Ardmore: We Are Because of Others by Fee Halsted Launched at the KZN Ardmore Studio
Roger and Pat de la Harpe attended the launch of Ardmore: We Are Because of Others by Fée Halsted on Sunday 30 September at the Ardmore studios in KZN and have written about the launch on their site, Africa Imagery.
The De la Harpes contributed many of the photographs for the book and describe the work that they’ve done over the years with Halsted:
What a wonderful way to spend a Sunday! Ardmore Ceramics celebrated the launch of their new book – Ardmore – We Are Because of Others and we were invited along because much of the photography in the book is ours. Pat and I are are thrilled with the way it looks.
It all started some years ago: We were aware of the Ardmore brand having long since admired both the beautiful ceramic art they created but also the work they were doing in empowering and uplifting local artists. Ardmore was founded in the late 1980′s by Fée Halsted on Ardmore Farm in the foothills of the Drakensberg Mountains of KwaZulu-Natal, where she lived. Here she met Bonnie Ntshalintshali, daughter of their housekeeper, whose polio meant that she was unable to work in the fields. Fée quickly realised that Bonnie showed huge promise as an artist and, in 1990 Fée and Bonnie were jointly awarded the Standard Bank Young Artist Award for their work.
